Abstract

Federal Law No. 13.006/2014 establishes the obligation to allocate two monthly hours for the screening of Brazilian cinema in basic education schools. However, the effective application of this legislation has raised questions about its feasibility. This research aimed to assess adherence to this law in regular public schools in the municipality of Passos (MG) through quantitative and qualitative survey research. An electronic questionnaire was administered to principals and pedagogical coordinators to conduct a comprehensive diagnosis on the applicability of the said law. The results revealed a notable lack of awareness of the legislation and highlighted structural deficiencies that compromise its effective implementation. Based on these findings, educational materials were developed as a tool for ongoing teacher training. Additionally, a diagnosis of the law's application was conducted to serve as a guide for improvements within municipal and state educational authorities.
