Abstract

The promotion of experimental activities in Basic Education can be hampered by the lack of infrastructure in institutions. In order to alleviate this situation, the Center for the Dissemination and Popularization of Science (CDPC) of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Southern Minas Gerais, with its Experiment Library, makes materials available to public schools. In this paper, we report on extension experiences developed by the CDPC, with the aim of understanding the CDPC as an extension practice, as well as discussing the impacts of the project on teaching. To this end, we present reports from people linked to the CDPC and data collected from teachers who used materials provided by the center. The results reinforce the relevance of the CDPC for disseminating and engaging students in scientific practices. The suggestions collected can contribute to improving the project, with a view to popularizing science and democratizing access to educational resources. Furthermore, we highlight the potential of the CDPC as a space for articulating teaching, research and extension.
