Abstract

This article investigates the use of textile waste in the production of sustainable footwear, with an emphasis on the redesign of traditional rope-soled flats, known as espadrilles. The research explored the technical and environmental feasibility of this circular economy model, seeking alternatives for reducing waste in the apparel manufacturing sector. The methodology combined a literature review and a case study, which involved the collection of textile waste from a garment factory and the development of footwear from these materials. The results indicated that, while artisanal production limits scalability, the use of recycled materials proved effective in terms of quality, comfort, and sustainability. Moreover, the implementation of circular practices can be expanded with the adoption of sorting technologies and selective collection systems. The study contributes to the promotion of more sustainable fashion and the development of creative solutions in the design of products with lower environmental impact.
