Abstract

Digital two-dimensional pattern making has become essential in the garment industry, ensuring precision in the creation of patterns. Traditionally done manually, pattern making has evolved with specialized CAD/CAM software, but its high cost limits access for freelancers and small businesses. In this study, CorelDRAW was used as an affordable alternative for digital pattern making, even though it was not originally designed for this purpose. The research explored the software as a tool for digital pattern making, focusing on its ability to assist in creating garment patterns. The objective was to analyze how CorelDRAW can be utilized for this purpose, identifying its features, benefits, and challenges. The methodology involved the practical use of the software in drafting a pencil skirt pattern, from the creation of the pattern to prototyping. The results indicated that, although CorelDRAW has limitations, such as the lack of specific tools for certain adjustments, it proved to be an efficient and cost-effective solution. Digital pattern making with CorelDRAW resulted in precise patterns and a well-fitted prototype, demonstrating its viability as an accessible alternative for independent pattern makers and small businesses in the garment sector.
