Abstract

This study describes the training of students from the Faculty of Medicine of Itajubá to perform rapid tests at a Basic Health Unit (UBS) and their subsequent intervention to improve the quality of tests and compulsory notification of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). After the training, the students performed the tests on patients at the UBS and identified deficiencies in the performance and follow-up of the tests, as well as in the compulsory notification of STIs. In response, they held a meeting with healthcare professionals from the UBSs in the municipality, emphasizing the importance of rapid tests, training of professionals for their correct performance, and proper follow-up for positive cases. This project successfully achieved its main objective, sensitizing healthcare professionals about the relevance of training, proper follow-up of positive patients, and compulsory notification of STIs.
