Abstract

The article addressed the complex of images that constitute the book “The Flowers of Evil” by Charles Baudelaire, from the methodological perspective of Gilbert Durand's imaginary theories. In search of understanding the emergence of images similar to religious or mystical symbols throughout the text, we proposed to map the main mythemes that informed the author's poetic production, not only on its narrative surface, but in the underground galleries of the text, beneath the form of redundant or obsessive image traces. In addition, we sought to identify the influences exerted on poetic elaboration by the author's worldview and by the decadent artistic school of the late 19th century. As a result, traces of a possible non-religious Baudelairean mysticism were found, which denotes new possibilities for development within the scope of Religious Sciences.
