Abstract

Today's society demands differentiated skills from its members, among them media literacy. From a very young age, individuals need to learn to relate critically to the various media and their respective supports. We believe that such skills need to be learned, that school is the privileged place for citizenship education, and that the textbook plays an important role in the teaching-learning process. Therefore, this article presents an exploratory research, carried out through a quali-quanti approach, whose objective is to analyze how the books of Editora Moderna, “Buriti Mais Português”, used from 2019 to 2022, have contributed to the development of media literacy in students in the final years of elementary school I. The analysis shows that these books have several relevant activities and serve as support to the teaching work regarding the development of media literacy in 4th and 5th grade students of elementary school I.
